A story of play, purpose and people

It started with a classroom…and a calling

In 1985, Rajika Dhiren opened a kindergarten in Hyderabad, India, inspired by her mother’s 50-year legacy in education. What started off as a space for joyful learning soon became a mission: to create an environment where every child – regardless of ability – grows

Learning through play, with heart

As educators, we saw that there was a scarcity of quality learning materials for schools and for children. So, Edcraft was born in 1994 – dedicated to designing research-backed tools that made learning feel joyful and inclusive. We proudly partnered with the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped (now NIEPID) to co-develop, manufacture, and distribute research-based materials for children across India, from pre-primary to vocational levels. A proud moment came in 2005, when our work was honoured by late President Dr. A.P.J. Kalam – a landmark moment that celebrated the power of purpose and play.

From handcrafted to world-class

We began designing educational tools using natural alternatives to plastic, such as wood, felt and fabric. In 2018, a creative partnership with Mr. Keith Ridgeway from London, brought global perspective and renewed innovation to our work, leading to transformation of Edcraft into Ekoplay.

Built by people, driven by purpose

We’re proud to be an inclusive workplace, where neurodivergent adults are valued team members. Their presence enriches our culture and deepens our commitment to diversity. As a women-led organisation, we actively empower women across every part of our process – from leadership to production. With every puzzle we design, every classroom we support, and every child we reach, we carry forward that same spirit that started it all – a love for curiosity, a heart full of compassion, and a deep sense of community.

An educator who became an entrepreneur.

Most journeys begin with a plan – mine began with a feeling.

Hi, I’m Rajika Dhiren, and Ekoplay is a reflection of my life that is constantly revealing itself it its ever-evolving zest for giving back to the society.

Co-founded Edcraft with Sheela in 1994.

We went on to become the only ones to partner with National Institutes to design & develop educational materials for children with special needs.

Chance meeting with Mr. Keith Ridgeway at SEN Show in London sparked a global collaboration.

Today, we craft eco-friendly puzzles and learning materials that nurture young minds across the world while contributing to a sustainable planet. Ekoplay is my way of giving back – with heart, purpose and play.
